Recently, on my way home, I noticed a new building going up and wondered what they could possibly be building. I assumed it would be a bank, but when the sign went up my taste buds started doing a little dance. “PDQ Coming Soon!” After hearing from many of my friends about how great this place had been, I had to check it out for myself, as soon as possible.
PDQ is a ‘fast-casual’ style restaurant chain who is really making itself known in the South Florida area. This location in particular is a stand-alone building, built from the ground up and boasts a large parking lot with plenty of space. Being that it is near a mall and in a very busy Target plaza, it was very easy to find a spot, without having to stalk someone walking out to their car.
PDQ stands for People Dedicated to Quality and I really feel that they live up to that. Their menu is very simple and not complicated to order from. Everything is fresh and made to order which is great because nobody wants to eat food that’s been sitting under a hot lamp. They cut their french fries by hand daily, there are no microwaves and absolutely no freezers! Everything is just so fresh and I really like that. It definitely makes you feel good about what you’re about to eat.
When we arrived at PDQ, there was a bit of a line, but it moved fairly quick. It was just enough time to check out the menu and decide on what we would be ordering. After we ordered, we grabbed our drinks from the Coca-Cola Freestyle Machine and found a seat in an open area toward the front of the restaurant. Just as we sat down, our names were called cheerfully over the microphone and we headed to the counter to pick it up.
I ordered the new Cali Club Chicken Sandwich Meal ($9.29) which came with a side of fries and the kids of course chose their kids meals. They had the Fresh Honey Marinated Nuggets ($4.59) and their famous Fresh Tenders ($4.19) which came with with fries and either a Yoo-hoo, juice box or fountain drink. Of course, my little ones wanted Hand-Spun Oreo Milk Shakes ($3.49) as well, so we ordered those too.
My Cali Club was amazing! It was a fresh grilled chicken breast on a brioche bun with a light ranch dressing, bacon, lettuce, tomato and my favorite part; sliced avocado. The chicken breast was seasoned just right and very juicy. I absolutely love the buttery flavor of the brioche bun as well. It really makes this sandwich what it is. And of course, the fresh cut french fries were cooked to perfection with a great balance of a crunchy exterior and soft center. These are probably some of the best fries I’ve had in a long time!
The kids seemed to enjoy their meals as well. Usually if they don’t like something; they will leave it, but they cleared their chicken rather quickly, only leaving behind a few fries.
For dessert, we had the Fresh Apple Slices with Toffee Dip. All I can say is wow! Whatever they are doing, they are doing it right with their toffee dip. It’s like a little taste of heaven and I actually got my kids to eat a fruit without a fuss.
I was very impressed with this restaurant and definitely plan on going back with my family. It’s a great place with a friendly atmosphere and healthy menu options that won’t burn a hole in your wallet.
